A Girl and Her Guitar

I’m practicing some of my new photo-editing skills. I was on the far right of the stage at the Crocodile in Seattle last summer, on a hot and sultry night with the Heartless Bastards, and I had to catch this shot of Erika Wennerstrom by threading the needle through all the band’s stage gear and movement. Almost impossible to get anything of her, and she’s the one we all want to see, with her Gibson and smokey voice. The venue’s lighting dude kept turning the lights down darker, too. Still, there’s Erika, glowing, in the darkness, deep in her music.

Heartless Bastards

That Nose, Rail, and Tail Sound

That loud, grinding L.A. skateboarder sound, with a Gibson, and a whole lot of attitude. A portfolio of photos of Hanni El-Khatib and his touring band, opening for The Black Angels at The Neptune, Theatre, 13 May 2013.

Love the Taste

The Los Angeles incarnation of the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club has released their latest, “Spector at the Feast,” and the vinyl package is delicious. Angry Beat poets with classic Gibson guitars. And yes, “Let the Day Begin” is a reverential cover of The Call‘s song (these two bands are connected by blood, this song’s the clue). Play hard, play loud. It’s all over before you know it.
